I attempted making my own Veggie Burgers! They turned out…okay. I think I had the pan too hot when I initially put them in, so they turned out a little darker than I would have liked. All in all…I’ll try them again.
I completely made up the recipe, so it was truly an experiment. (None of the measurements are exact.)
d’s Vegan Burgers
- 1/4 cup carrots
- 1/4 cup onions
- cilantro (I didn’t measure, but it was probably 2-3 TBS)
- 2 TBS garlic
- 1/2 cup brown rice
- 1/2 can black beans
- 1-2 adobo peppers and about a tsp of the sauce
- 1/4 cup TVP
- 1/4 cup oats
- 1 TBS nutritional yeast
I soaked the TVP for about 5 minutes – drain water. Put everything into your food processor and blend until ingredients make a paste. Form paste into patty. (It made 3 for me.)
Spray frying pan lightly with oil. Turn on high heat. Cook for about 5 minutes. Spray patty lightly with oil before turning over. Cook on remaining side about 5 minutes.
**I made another one the other night, just put brown rice, onions, tomatoes, corn, black beans, nutritional yeast and oats in the food processor. Voila! Veggie burger. It was pretty good too. It’s really not that difficult, and a lot healthier than the ones you buy in the store.
